Lupa–Chunya Goldfield

The Lupa Goldfield lies at the southwestern margin of the Tanzania Craton in the Ubendian Belt. Academic work describes Palaeoproterozoic orogenic gold in auriferous quartz veins and brittle–ductile to mylonitic shear zones, with a long history of structural reactivation. This setting should not be collapsed into the Archaean Lake Victoria greenstone model.

Geological and chronological setting

Research places the goldfield at the cratonic margin within the NW–SE-trending Ubendian Belt. Archaean granitoid basement and Palaeoproterozoic felsic–mafic intrusions were affected by later metamorphism and deformation.

Goldfield-wide mineralisation is linked in published work to a Palaeoproterozoic orogenic event around 1.88 Ga. The date is a regional research result, not an automatic age assignment for every vein.
