Handeni–Magambazi District

Handeni–Magambazi is an eastern Tanzania high-grade metamorphic gold district in the Mozambique Belt. Gold occurrences are reported in granulite- to amphibolite-facies rocks, including garnet-amphibolite horizons and shear-related quartz veins at lithological contacts. The district requires a high-grade-terrain model rather than an unmodified greenstone template.

01

High-grade metamorphism can obscure or rework earlier hydrothermal features.

02

Garnet-amphibolite horizons, gneiss contacts and shear veins require integrated testing.

03

Historical technical reports require current licence and project-status checks.

01

High-grade metamorphic setting

The Handeni province lies in the Neoproterozoic Mozambique Belt and contains high-grade metamorphic rocks derived from mafic, felsic and sedimentary precursors. This differs materially from the lower-grade Archaean greenstone belts of the Lake Victoria Goldfields.

Metamorphic recrystallisation can modify textures, mineral assemblages and structures. The observed mineralogy may record peak metamorphism, retrogression, hydrothermal alteration or several of these processes.
